Bhutan’s cultivable paddy land shrinks as imports soar

Bhutan has recorded 868 cases of illegal structures built on paddy land (chhuzhing) without official approval, even as rice self-sufficiency has slipped to about 25 percent and the country spends billions of ngultrum importing rice.
